The journey is quite steep up to 13,615 feet but well worth it. The site is located on a plateau with stunning views of the Sacred Valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Mountain Range.
The beautiful Inkan site is believed to have been built by the Emperor Ubiracochia around 1420 A.D. as a military administrative and agricultural center. It was a place where only royal families lived. There are numerous structures and an 800 meters long irrigation channel. It is surrounded by wonderfully preserved agricultural terraces.
Huchuy Qosqo means Small Cusco. When the Spaniels arrived they built around the huge Mother Rock. (Mother Rocks are believed to go to the center of the earth.) This place was also considered an Astronomy viewpoint.
