A cultural immersion excursion to a Quechua Village is a wonderful experience! For those who love kids and also the Quechua culture, this is a favorite. The people receive you with dancing and invite you to dance with them. They show you their traditional weaving and farming methods. They believe they should be happy while they work, and they are.
They serve a traditional lunch cooked in the ground and covered with hot rocks. Everyone works together to cover the food with herbs and hot rocks, which must be done quickly, before the rocks cool.
You also get to meet their Alpaca!
The best part is bringing toys and school supplies to give to the kids. They are happy with the smallest things.
There are a variety of communities you can visit. Some communities are used to welcoming foreigners. They have experience in showing you their dying and weaving practices and offer their handmade wares for sale. Others are focused on farming and share with you the way they work happily together.
Some communities don’t often interact with foreigners and you have the opportunity to make their first impression a good one. Like the rest of us, they feel good knowing someone cares about them. You will leave feeling like you have received much more than you have given!
You will want a Quechua-speaking guide to translate the entire experience.
