Why do this tour?
Waqrapukara is the Quechua translation for āHorned Fortressā (Waqra for horn, pukara for fortress). This archeological site is off the beaten path and is said to be shrouded in mystery. Locals believe it has a special energy connected to Andean mysticism and its ancient past. The Waqrapukara is an authentic stone masterpiece highlighted by carved stone walls, grand doorways, and stone structures that have survived the ravages of time.
Located in the Acomayo province of Cusco (about 7kms. From Cusco Cit), Waqrapukara requires a three-hour hike that passes several ecological zones where itās possible for you to spot vicunas or even sight some condors in flight. Delight in stunning views of the Apurimac Canyon and the pictures-perfect āPomacanchiā lagoon.
At each stage of the hike, a professional guide will provide information about the fortress, and the surrounding areas, including the local flora and fauna. Some tour operators will have breakfast and lunch prepared.
Since the tour is a circuit hike, you will walk back on the same path you took going to the fortress ruins.
